Veering off a little from my traditional book review style, I thought I’d combine two of my favourite topics (popular culture and literature) into this post. It’s just a bit of fun and no harm is intended!
Lenny Kravitz – Bellatrix Lestrange
Although we don’t talk about JK, you can’t help but look at Lenny’s corset and heels, and think that this dark unruly outfit represents the “woman with thick, shining dark hair and heavily hooded eyes” (Goblet of Fire).
Blake Lively – Cinderella
In a theatrical fashion, Blake Lively altered her gown from copper coloured tones to a cascading blue – a transformation that reminds us all of Cinderella’s rags to riches makeover (which is by no means a reflection on Blake herself who looked stunning both before and after).
Chloe Bailey – Golden Snitch
I hate to mention the dreaded JK again, but this outfit is truly reminiscent of the Golden Snitch in Harry Potter; frankly, it’s the first things I thought of when I saw those golden wings.
“The Golden Snitch is a golden ball the size of a large walnut with silver wings.”
She is beautiful, and beautiful people tend to be able to pull anything off. But with this comparison in mind, I’m not sure I’d wear this again if I were her; although, to be fair, it did fit this year’s Met Gala theme of “gilded glamour”.
Olivia Rodrigo – Seelie Queen
Faerie-like and quaint but powerful and majestic at the same time, Olivia’s outfit brings about the essence of The Mortal Instrument’s Seelie Queen. Although not a redhead like the eponymous character, The Seelie Queen is one with nature, and the butterflies in Olivia’s hair emphasise this.
Frederik Robertson – White Witch
Sharp and cold, this outfit evokes images of icy stalactites associated with Jadis the White Witch – a character who conjured “fierceness and pride” in The Chronicles of Narnia.
Kourtney Kardashian – Alex (A Clockwork Orange)
This outfit is rough around the edges and seems almost carelessly put together. These are traits symbiotic with Alex of A Clockwork Orange. The heel which peeks at the bottom could represent the dark sadism underneath.
Emma Stone – Daisy Buchanan
Emma Stone’s dress represents the flapper-style reminiscent of The Great Gatsby era. Additionally, this outfit embodies Daisy – the epitome of charm and sophistication.
